Mary Joyce assumed the role of Vice President and General Manager of UL’s Mobility and Automotive business in July of 2019.

With over 30 years of international technology and entrepreneurial experience in the transportation sector, Mary leverages her experience and leadership to develop and deliver solutions focusing on safety, security, and sustainability in the Mobility industry, particularly focusing on the ACES transformation.

Prior to joining UL, Joyce was the Vice President of Transportation Testing Services at SGS, a global Testing, Inspection and Certification company. Joyce spent more than 20 years at Automotive OEM’s including FCA, Daimler Chrysler and Chrysler Corporation where she served in a variety of management and technical roles.  During this time, she was awarded 14 US Patents in the areas of alternate propulsion and electronics.

Mary serves on the Advisory Board of Enertech Capital and holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering; Master of Science in Electrical Engineering and an MBA, all from Oakland University.

Sean Kelley is a Senior Vice President and Principal with The Mannik & Smith Group, Inc.; a 360-person engineering and environmental sciences consulting firm with 15 offices in Michigan, Ohio, Alabama and West Virginia.

Sean specializes in the development of test infrastructure for “smart mobility.”  This includes closed-system test facilities for connected & automated vehicles (CAV).  He was instrumental in the planning and implementation of three of the most significant CAV test facilities in the Midwest:

  • The University of Michigan’s Mcity in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
  • The American Center for Mobility (located 30 minutes west of Detroit).
  • The Transportation Research Center’s SMARTCenter, located at Honda’s North American test center in Central Ohio.

Sean will lead one of the industry sessions at IEEE ICCVE 2022.

Michael Woon is a co-founder of Retrospect, an autonomous vehicle safety validation company based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Since its founding, three years ago, Michael has helped lead Retrospect’s core safety argumentation and safety architecture. He has consulted with some of the leading autonomous vehicle operators and developers on holistic AV safety concepts, and has helped propose standard requirements for perception algorithms for consortia such as IAMTS and UN ECE. Michael has been an invited speaker for measuring and assuring safety of AVs at conferences and workshops in Europe and the US. Prior to founding Retrospect, Michael worked as a functional safety consultant at one of North America’s leading functional safety companies, kVA, and as an algorithm development engineer for GM’s hybrid powertrain group.

Chief Championship Officer Roborace and Head of Arrival USA

roborace

The Chief Champion Officer of Roborace in partnership with Prof. Daniel Watzenig (Global Chair of IEEE ICCVE 2019) from TU Graz, Austria, will provide a tutorial with the title:
Design of a purely electric autonomous racecar – autonomy at the edge

Autonomous racing is an evolving new sport of racing and is an emerging technology that is rapidly increasing. Several events and series have been launched, including the first international autonomous racing series Roborace (already launched in 2015), the Indy Autonomous Challenge (IAC) 2021 as well as student competitions such as Formula Student Driverless. The spirit of autonomous racing is to push the limits of autonomy in terms of performance and precision. By demonstrating safety, security, and reliability of connected and automated vehicles at the edge, i.e., at high speeds, high dynamics, and adverse weather conditions, a huge long-term impact on passenger car autonomy is expected. The mission of autonomous racing is to build trust on this exciting technology. While others focus on autonomy only, Roborace had a clear vision right from the start: Pioneering racing sports by building fully electric, zero-emission, high-performance autonomous racecars while bringing together the traditional racing fanbase, technical nerds, and digital natives.

Check out this video with Chip and what he has to say about how Roborace could make an impact on AV safety related research: https://ne-np.facebook.com/GMISummit/videos/chip-pankow-chief-championship-officer-roborace-shed-light-on-how-autonomous-dri/993204814887906/?__so__=permalink&__rv__=related_videos
